Bands
Bands who played at Phoenix Rising - 'THE BIG ONE'
Mitch
Malloy
Mitch grew up in Dickinson, North Dakota. He began singing at the age of 6 at his church.
He started playing guitar at age 12. Some of his influences were The Beatles,
Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, and Heart. As a young adult he moved to New Jersey
and fronted some different bands before hooking up with Desmond Child and Mark Ribler.
Soon to follow came his first CD titled "Mitch Malloy" in March of 1992. It
spawned 2 singles. They were "Anything At All" & "Nobody Wins In This
War". His second CD titled "Ceilings And Walls" came out in 1994. He
has the uncanny ability to sing in a very smooth clear voice and then change it up so
dramatically to a rough bluesy voice that it's hard to tell it's the same singer!
Dante Fox
Dante Fox released the album entitled
"The Fire Within" in October 1998. The album sees Danté Fox heading for a
harder yet more melodic direction which showcases all of the bands strongest areas. The
album features guest appearances from Shy/Siams Tony Mills on backing vocals and Hard
Rains Paul Hodson on keyboards. All songs were written by Sue Willetts and Tim
Manford except for the Steve Lange cover "Remember" (which already seems to be
becoming a dance floor favourite around the clubs).
Age of Reason
Age of Reason (formerly known as Cry Havoc) come from Glasgow. The latest news is that the band are hard at
work in Jondis studio recording the demos for their eagerly awaited debut album on the Now
& Then Productions / Frontier Records roster. There is approximately 30 tracks to
choose from.
The band members - Stevie Colville is the frontman, Graham is the co founder member of Cry Havoc
and is one the the best guitarists to come out of Glasgow, Jondi is a producer in his own
right, Davie is
the drummer, Paul is one of the men who created Cry Havoc along with Graham. Paul has
always been more of a hard rock fan than a heavy metal fan preferring powerful guitar
melodies and loads of vocal harmonies, so when he (a very talented bassist with a good
voice) hooked up with Graham( an outstanding guitarist with no end to his abilities) they
knew this band would do well.
Never
The previous incarnation of Never (Inside Out) played Phoenix Rising two years ago, and
had a lot of praise from the press and fans. The new band has only one member of the
original band (Pete Lauder), the other members left to pursue other projects. The
new band members are - Tony Marshall, Vocals, Electric and Acoustic Guitars - Paul
Sidebotham, Bass Guitar and Backing Vocals - Chris Wright, Drums - Pete Lauder, Guitar.
The band is from the north west of England and between them have a vast experience
of playing melodic/AOR music. Never have a punchy style with big harmonies and
plenty of melody. Watch for an explosive set from them - you could be suprised!
Sugartown
Sugartown were formed by brothers Tom & James Martin after
they had completed the Jekyll and Hyde tour with Rainmaker. They then recruited
vocalist/lead guitarist Phil O'Dea who used to be with the band Big Guns who were signed
to Zero Records in Japan. They are joined for their live shows by Bassist Wayne
Lawson (who was also in Big Guns) and drummer Kev Jones. After a short spell in the
studio they released their first EP "Sugartown" which was well received by the
public and press alike. Hopefully their newly released EP "4tune" will be
equally as well received. However live work is what the band really lives for and
they cannot wait to play Phoenix Rising - The Big One! The band members are Tom
Martin - Guitars and backing vox, Phil O'Dea - Vocals/lead guitar, James Martin -
Keyboards and backing vox, Kev Jones - Drums, Wayne Lawson - Bass and backing vox.
Tikaboo
Peak
Tikaboo Peak was formed in March 1997 by Pete and Jerome over a few (well maybe more than
a few) pints of beer in a pub in Sheffield. Around January 1998 Rich joined and the
band produced a CD with 8 instrumental tracks. However, it was time to find a
vocalist. Along came Dale in April 1998. Dale had previously been in a gigging
club band named Tigerzye and spent time between both bands. When Tigerzye split up
in early 1999, Dale started to compose more songs and Tikaboo Peak started to really take
off. The band haven't looked back since. The band members are (left to right): Rich - Bass, Dale
- Vocals, Jerome - Guitars, Pete - Guitars/keyboards.
